The Dallas Cowboys were confident heading into their Wild Card matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
They were playing at home, an advantage they have taken full advantage of over the past two years.
Plus, on paper, their offense and defense appeared stronger than the Packers’, which should have resulted in an easy win.
However, there is a reason why the game is played.
The Packers got an early lead in this game and never looked back.
They put up 48 points on the Cowboys, a feat that Craig Carton called “A failure of epic proportions” from the Cowboys’ perspective.

48 points is the highest total that the Cowboys have allowed all season.
While the Packers’ offense was led by Jordan Love and many first and second-year skill-position players, they found a way to take care of business in Dallas.
Not only did this loss immediately quell the Cowboys’ chances of moving forward in the playoffs, but it could have cost Dan Quinn a potential head coaching job.
Carton also mentioned, “I wouldn’t hire him now,” indicating that it would be hard to “sell a fanbase” on Quinn.
Whether Quinn still has any head coaching interviews remains to be seen.
Judging the level of optimism the Cowboys had coming into this game, they will need to look hard at their current roster and personnel, hoping to figure out what went wrong and how they can fix it heading into 2024.
If history repeats itself next year, the Cowboys fanbase will continue to get frustrated with the direction this team is heading.
