The Kansas City Chiefs will always have a chance to win because of Patrick Mahomes.
That’s the kind of perk you get when you have the best quarterback in the game.
Mahomes has set the standard for modern-day quarterbacks, and he currently sits in a tier of his own in the league’s hierarchy.
Or does he?
Recently, NFL analyst Mark Willard made a bit of a wild comparison, talking on 95.7 The Game about how similar Brock Purdy has been to him this season.
Per Willard, the San Francisco 49ers young star has been as good as Mahomes, stating that there hasn’t been anything that Mahomes has done better than him thus far this year.
“Here’s what no one wants to say and I’m ready to say it. Let’s put 2 QB’s side by side. One’s Brock Purdy and the other’s Patrick Mahomes. You know who’s having a better year? It’s not even close…Explain to me how Patrick Mahomes has done anything better than Brock Purdy this… pic.twitter.com/FxvthDZPGq

Eye test aside, their numbers aren’t that far off.
Purdy has thrown for 1,019 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions, all while completing 72.3% of his passes.
Mahomes, on the other hand, has completed 64.3% of his passes for 1,006 yards, eight scores, and four picks.
Statistically speaking, one could make a case for Purdy being better this year, but that’s not the way it works.
Purdy has a better supporting cast of skill players around him, not to mention a most stacked team overall.
Also, he’s not as mobile as Mahomes is, and while he’s always clean in the pocket, he also boasts an elite offensive line.
Of course, this is not a diss on Purdy by any means; he’s been quite solid.
But it still feels like this comparison was out of line, at least for the time being.
