The Carolina Panthers have yet to win their first game of the season.
Even though they weren’t expected to compete at a high level, Frank Reich’s team has been fairly disappointing this year, and that especially goes for 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young.
Young has looked comfortable and unbothered in the pocket at times, but he’s struggled with the physicality of the league, and he’s made some questionable reads and decisions thus far.
That’s why Sam Monson of PFF believes the Panthers should give him a helping hand and acquire a veteran wide receiver.
In the latest edition of the PFF NFL Podcast, Monson made a case for the Panthers trading for DeAndre Hopkins.

He explained that the Tennessee Titans won’t go anywhere anyway, and Hopkins is on a team-friendly deal, and they won’t have to pay him that much for the remainder of the year.
He argued that even though it’s just a short-term rental, the Panthers need to make sure that Bryce Young doesn’t get “damaged” by this terrible season, adding that a savvy veteran who could make things easy for Young could do wonders.
Monson explained that the Panthers would basically be risking a mid-round pick to try and save their franchise quarterback, and if it doesn’t work out, then they didn’t lose much anyway.
Looking at it like that, trading for Hopkins does make perfect sense.
The Panthers will continue to struggle this season, but they can’t let that get into Young’s head if they truly believe in him.
