The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s newest dynasty.
They’ll continue to be the team to beat for as long as Andy Reid is calling the shots and Patrick Mahomes is out there and healthy, and the front office knows that.
That’s why they signed Reid to a very lucrative contract extension that will keep him at Arrowhead Stadium for at least six more years.
That’s a lot for a guy who’ll be 71 years old by the time his deal runs out, but he’s shown no signs or desire to walk away from the game.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Charles Goldman pointed out the fact that now, Reid is in a position to break Don Shula’s record and become the league’s winningest coach.
If the #Chiefs average 12 regular season wins per year for the life of Andy Reid’s new contract, he’d have 330 career wins and pass Don Shula (328) to become the winningest coach in NFL history. https://t.co/r5S2U3RvL2

For that to happen, the Chiefs will need to average 12 wins per season for the remainder of his contract, which seems quite feasible, to be honest, especially with a 17-game schedule.
That way, Reid would get to 330 career wins, two more than Shula.
Needless to say, anything can happen in this league, and six years is a lot of time.
No one ever thought that Bill Belichick would be out of the New England Patriots four years after Tom Brady’s departure, and four years is like a decade in NFL time.
Belichick needs to get another chance to coach, and he’d still need at least two seasons to catch up with Shula.
So, if Reid pulls it off, he might as well go down as the greatest to ever do it.
