The Stefon Diggs era is over for the Buffalo Bills.
The former Minnesota Vikings star may have overstayed his welcome in Buffalo, and he’s now heading to the Houston Texans.
Notably, his tenure in Buffalo may go down in infamy, not because of his play but because of how much money he cost the team.
As shown by salary cap expert Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap, the Bills will now carry about $31.1 million in dead money for him.
He called Diggs’ contract extension a “disaster,” as they wound up paying an extra $20.9 million in 2022 and 2023 just to send him away for low draft picks.
The #Bills will carry about $31.1 million in dead money for Diggs. Pretty much a disaster extension for them. Wound up paying an extra $20.9M in 2022 and 2023 to come away with a net of less than a 2nd rounder next year.

The Bills might have been very desperate to get rid of him if they had been willing to absorb that cap hit and watch him go away.
Diggs drew all kinds of negative media attention last season, and it seemed like he was ready to force his way out of the team.
Even his brother Trevon took to social media to call the Bills out and urged them to trade him, so he clearly wasn’t happy there anymore.
His production took a massive dip as soon as Joe Brady took over for Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator, yet the team actually fared better offensively when he took a step back.
Perhaps that’s why they felt like they could afford to move on without him, regardless of the financial implications of that decision.
Even so, they must have a backup plan, as they just also lost Gabe Davis.
