The San Francisco 49ers just made the news for all the wrong reasons.
They parted ways with defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, with HC Kyle Shanahan stating that the team firmly believed they had to go in a different direction.
Shanahan said Wilks was not a good fit.
Considering that, NFL analyst Craig Carton claimed that Rex Ryan is the perfect candidate to take over that defense.
Talking on “The Carton Show,” he explained that Ryan not joining the Dallas Cowboys could actually be a blessing in disguise for him.
“Rex Ryan goes to Frisco, he makes a couple million bucks, he tinkers a little bit with that defense, San Fran wins the Super Bowl,” Carton said.
Who should replace Steve Wilks as #49ers DC?
“Rex Ryan, obvious answer. Rex Ryan goes to Frisco, he makes a couple million bucks, he tinkers a little bit with that defense, San Fran wins the Super Bowl.” — @craigcartonlive pic.twitter.com/P9PDOP6AuG

Now, he has an opportunity to make some money in San Francisco and coach their stellar defense to a Super Bowl win, and he’d later become the hottest head coaching candidate in the league if that were to come to fruition.
Truth be told, this makes perfect sense.
Ryan is a bona fide and proven defensive mind in this league, and he’d get an opportunity to coach a stellar set of talent.
Whether Wilks should’ve been fired or was the team’s scapegoat is another debate, but now that they’re in the hunt for a replacement, it would be hard to think of a better candidate than Ryan.
Ryan has been vocal about his desire to get back into the trenches after some time away from the game to serve as an analyst.
Now, it’ll be interesting to see if John Lynch and Shanahan pick up the phone to give him a chance to make a triumphant return to the league.
