Ever since Patrick Mahomes took over for veteran quarterback Alex Smith under center for the Kansas City Chiefs, it has been nothing but successful for Andy Reid and company, with the team winning three Super Bowls while being the cream of the crop in the NFL.
Starting Mahomes ahead of Smith was a game-changer for the Chiefs and the league, as he quickly became a superstar with a skill set we had never seen at the quarterback position in the NFL.
Because of Mahomes’ unique style and relentless drive to win, the Chiefs have been able to sustain their status as one of the best teams in the league and have become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since Tom Brady did with the New England Patriots.
Even though Mahomes has clearly changed the league since he became arguably the best quarterback in the game, Ric Bucher of FOX Sports argues that Cam Newton was more influential to the NFL than the Chiefs superstar has been thus far via Speak On FS1.
“Because he was the first dual-threat quarterback to win MVP and to go to the Super Bowl,” Bucher said.

This is a pretty bold statement from Bucher as he’s acting like Netwon is the first quarterback to have success playing with that style that he brought to the game, which isn’t the case.
However, as for Mahomes, this is the first time we’ve seen a player this talented play the quarterback position while being successful year after year.
On the other hand, Newton flamed out as quickly as he became NFL MVP and never found success after losing in the Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers.
