The Washington Commanders made their expected selection in round one of the 2024 NFL Draft, taking Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick.
Daniels is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and with the Commanders in desperate search of a new franchise quarterback, he could be a good fit for this offense.
He’ll enter the Commanders with a few solid receiving options at his disposal, including Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.
After the Commanders made this pick, Rick Neuheisel and Pat Kirwan appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio, discussing what he could mean for this franchise.
As Kirwan boldly claimed, “He’s as good a runner as Lamar [Jackson] and a better thrower.”

Jackson was a questionable prospect when he entered the league, as there was trepidation about how well he would hold up in the NFL.
He presented as a Michael Vick-style quarterback, as he was known for being an elite athlete, but there were a few concerns about his passing ability.
Jackson has now won two league MVP awards, proving his doubters that he is more than capable of leading an NFL offense.
The same could be true for Daniels in Washington, especially if the franchise continues to build the roster around him.
Daniels presents a similar upside to Jackson, and as Kirwan mentions, he might have a better arm than Jackson, at least as a rookie.
With so many quarterbacks taken in the first round of this year’s draft, the 2024 season should be exciting for fans, who are anxious to see how these new additions will pan out.
