The New England Patriots are in uncharted waters, as they hold a 1-5 record through Week 6, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg for them.
They’re 31st in points per game and haven’t surpassed the 20-point mark all year, and the team as a whole seems stuck in some sort of deep malaise.
Quarterback Mac Jones is struggling, and there are now rumors that head coach Bill Belichick could either leave the team or even get fired at some point.
Per NFL on FOX Podcast, David Helman said this could be the end for the once proud franchise.
“This is the first time it’s dawning on me that this could be the end…I don’t even like saying it out loud.” @davidhelman_ on Bill Belichick and the #Patriots.

Belichick has been the team’s head coach and de facto general manager since 2000, and for the longest time, he seemed to be the closest thing to an NFL coach who was immune to a possible firing.
But ever since Tom Brady left following the 2019 season, the Patriots have struggled.
For a moment in 2021, they got above water and made the playoffs as Jones, then a rookie, made the Pro Bowl and gave them hope that perhaps they had found their next franchise QB.
But Jones has regressed since then, and so far this season he has thrown seven interceptions and just five touchdown passes while posting a 74.4 passer rating.
He has a lack of capable skill players around him, not to mention a substandard offensive line, which is partly where some have been pointing the finger.
The Patriots will play the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins in the next two weeks, which means there is a good chance they will be 1-7 at the end of the month.
