For many years, the NFL Combine was the only chance for players to showcase their skills to prospective teams.
The Combine allows players of all positions to demonstrate their talents, hoping to prove that they can be effective at the NFL level.
While this is still the case, many top prospects have recently decided to either forgo the Combine entirely or only participate in certain activities.
Pro Days have become more popular for top talents, especially for quarterbacks and wide receivers.
Several players have already announced their intent to skip the Combine, a controversial decision to some.
When looking through the players that have bowed out, analyst Chris Canty recently appeared on Unsportsmanlike Radio, where he talked about the five players he thinks will “light up the combine.”
In order, Canty listed Rome Odunze, Drake Make, Quinyon Mitchell, Olu Fashanu, and Roman Wilson.
Top 5 guys @ChrisCanty99 thinks will light up the combine
5 – @trilllroman – MI – Best fit: Bengals
4 – @olu_fashanu – Penn – Best fit: NYJ
3 – @quinyonMitchell – Toledo- Best fit: LAC
2 – @drakemaye2 – UNC – Best fit: Washington
1 – @Romeodunze – Washington – Best fit: NYG— UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio (@UnSportsESPN) February 27, 2024
Wilson and Odunze are the two receivers from this list and are both potentially seen as first-rounders.
This year’s draft is said to be loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball, which includes Odunze and Wilson.
Maye is a highly-touted quarterback in his own right, and he could go in the first top 10 picks if current trends persist.
Mitchell is said to be one of the best cornerbacks in the draft, and Fashanu should be one of the first offensive tackles taken.
The Combine is a great precursor to the draft, an opportunity for fans to get excited about certain players, hoping their team ends up taking them.
