The 2023 season ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Dallas Cowboys.
After a season that was mostly filled with successes that ended with the Cowboys having the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, many teams expected this team to make a run to the NFC Championship, perhaps the Super Bowl.
Despite the hype and anticipation for this team, they fell a bit short.
There have been different theories trying to figure out what this team needs to do and can do better.
Some have suggested a change at quarterback or head coach, but it seems like the front office is unwilling to make a change in either role.
Craig Carton recently suggested that the Cowboys “better fix that defense” if they want to improve next season.
“From a Cowboys standpoint, you better fix that defense.”

The Cowboys’ defense was one of the best in the league during the regular season.
From an outsider’s perspective, it might not make a lot of sense why Carton would make that assertion.
However, judging by the fact that the Cowboys allowed the Green Bay Packers to score 48 points in their Wild Card matchup, something has to change for this team, especially in big games.
Their defense might have been solid during the regular season, but everything comes down to how teams perform under pressure.
The defense folded under pressure, which set up their offense to be in a poor position to succeed.
Some fans and analysts blamed Dak Prescott for the team’s woes in the playoffs, but ultimately, it is nearly impossible for a quarterback to come back from a 48-point deficit, no matter what the name is on the back of their jersey.
It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys improve their defensive unit ahead of the 2024 season.
