Just like four years ago, the San Francisco 49ers held a double-digit lead over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
And just like four years ago, they have nothing to show for it.
Now, NFL analyst Chris Canty believes they won’t even be in the mix to make it back to the Super Bowl next season.
Talking on UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio, he snubbed the Niners from his top-five Super Bowl contenders for next year.
Top Five Super Bowl contenders for next season@ChrisCanty99 has his list:
5.) Texans +2200
4.) Bengals +1400
3.) Detroit Lions +1100
2.) Ravens +850
1.) Chiefs +700— UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio (@UnSportsESPN) February 13, 2024
Instead, he went with the Houston Texans at No. 5, giving DeMeco Ryans and CJ Stroud a big vote of confidence after what he saw them do and how they turned this team around in just their first season together.
Then he chose the Cincinnati Bengals, which is not much of a surprise, as they’re expected to have Joe Burrow back to full strength, and we already know what this team is capable of when the former No. 1 pick is behind center.
Following their breakout season, the Detroit Lions got the nod at No. 3, and they do have more than enough talent on both sides of the field to back up this claim.
Despite a heartbreaking end to the season, he chose Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at No. 2, hoping they could be as good as they were this season.
Unsurprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs were his No. 1 contender, as they continue to be the team to beat until proven otherwise, and they will look to become the first team with a three-peat in NFL history.
