The New York Giants are living a rare success story right now.
In something like the second coming of Linsanity, undrafted rookie QB Tommy DeVito has suddenly become a city-wide sensation in the Big Apple.
His Italian heritage, upbringing, his agent, and everything about him make it sound like a movie plot, and he went from being a meme to an actual fan favorite.
More than that, analyst Michael Lombardi believes that part of his success is actually thanks to his likability.
Talking to Pat McAfee on his show, Lombardi stated that the players tend to play better when they gravitate around a character they like, which is why they’re seemingly improving alongside the undrafted rookie.
“The Tommy DeVito story is great and I think the kid is tremendous..
The players gravitate towards him and when you like somebody you play better”@mlombardiNFL #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/iOareHcWjF

Nonetheless, Lombardi also believes it’s a matter of time before he comes back down to Earth and the run comes to an end, just like it happened with Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks.
That might as well be the case, and it definitely wouldn’t be the first or last time we hear of a one-hit wonder.
But DeVito is playing very well right now.
The Giants are 3-0 in the last three games and he hasn’t even turned the ball over yet during that span.
Also, with Daniel Jones on the shelf for at least half of the upcoming season, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to keep him around for a while, at least to give him a chance to prove his worth and whether he can beat the odds and become the league’s next fairytale story.
