The Miami Dolphins succeeded in one of their biggest goals last season, and that was keeping quarterback Tua Tagovailoa healthy following a series of scary concussions in previous years.
Tua ate only 29 sacks last season in all 17 games, his first year playing in every game, and according to one journalist, he is not finished prioritizing his health.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Omar Kelly, Tagovailoa is “slimming down so he could enhance his mobility” with the goal of potentially improving his mobility and adding a scrambling element to his game.

This is the next logical step for Tagovailoa, as even though he barely got sacked last season, it was largely due to him getting the ball out quickly and playing behind one of the league’s best offensive lines.
The offensive line took a hit this season losing Robert Hunt to free agency, so a more mobile Tua would be a strong way to combat a potentially-worse offensive line.
Miami’s offense bumped it’s head on the ceiling seemingly every time it faced another elite opponent and adding another variable to that offense would help tremendously.
Tua ran for 74 yards last season with a long of just nine yards and hasn’t had a rushing touchdown since 2021.
He has just 381 yards on the ground in his career.
Another area where this could help is ball security, as Tua had an eye-opening 13 fumbles last year, losing five, which is a lot considering he only got sacked 29 times and is a non-factor in the scrambling department.
