The San Francisco 49ers were one of the NFL’s most dominant teams during the regular season.
They had a minor slip-up around the halfway point in the year, but have otherwise cleaned up any of their minor mistakes.
While they needed to come from behind in their two playoff games, the 49ers have officially made it to the Super Bowl.
This is Kyle Shanahan’s second Super Bowl appearance in the past five seasons, and even though he has made it there, many believe he needs this win for his coaching legacy.
Craig Carton discussed this in a recent segment of his show, saying a win “puts him into the upper echelon.”
“It puts him into the upper echelon. Right now, he’s a great coach who hasn’t yet gotten into the winner’s circle,” Carton said.
What would a Super Bowl win mean for Shanahan’s reputation?

Shanahan is routinely touted as one of the best coaches in the league, evidenced by the fact that his team keeps playing well in the regular season.
While this is true, a Super Bowl win could work wonders for his resume.
Carton’s team points out that in Shanahan’s Super Bowl history, his teams have been outscored 46-0 in the fourth quarter and overtime.
The 49ers have been able to overcome deficits in their past two games, but the Super Bowl is a different beast.
If they find themselves behind early, especially in the second half, it will be interesting to see how Shanahan’s unit responds.
The Chiefs have had a surprisingly good defense this year, which could spell trouble for second-year QB Brock Purdy.
