After a forgettable 2023 NFL season, in which the team finished with an ugly 5-12 record which put them dead last in the AFC West division standings, the Los Angeles Chargers have been aggressive in their efforts to right the ship this NFL offseason.
Following embarrassingly giving up 63 points to the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders in December of last year, the Chargers brass decided it was finally time to part ways with head coach Brandon Staley, as he failed to live up to expectations and clearly wasn’t the right man to lead this franchise on the sideline.
Fortunately for Los Angeles, the team hired Jim Harbaugh, formerly of the University of Michigan, landing the most sought-after head coach on the open market.
Bringing in Harbaugh is a potential game-changing move for the team, as he can immediately change the culture while bringing a winning attitude to a team that desperately needs it.
Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chargers had the No. 5 overall pick, and although there was a ton of talent available at the wide receiver position, Harbaugh chose to go with offensive tackle Joe Alt, which addresses what he wanted to do, according to Greg Cosell, via the “Ross Tucker Podcast.”
“I talked with Jim Harbaugh at the combine, and the first thing he said was, ‘We gotta protect’… That’s the way he sees the game,” Cosell said.

Harbaugh appears to be prioritizing superstar quarterback Justin Herbert’s health, which is a smart move, considering he’s the best player on the team and is the reason why this franchise could be successful moving forward.
It remains to be seen whether this move pays off, but it surely put a smile on Herbert’s face this offseason.
