The Las Vegas Raiders will be heading into the 2024 season with Aidan O’Connell and newly-signed free agent Gardner Minshew in their quarterback room, leaving many fans wondering who will open the season as the starter.
Many expected the team to select one of the high-profile rookies in the NFL Draft, but a whopping six QBs flew off the board before the Raiders picked at No. 13, leaving everyone unsure about who will be under center in Week 1.
NFL Network’s Marc Ross appeared on “NFL Total Access” recently and discussed the battle, saying Minshew has shown that he can produce and he can win, and that he thinks the team should roll with him to open the season.

Ross praised Minshew for what he did with the Indianapolis Colts last season, playing 17 games for the first time in his career following Anthony Richardson’s season-ending injury and throwing 15 touchdowns with nine interceptions.
The Colts finished 9-8, barely missing out on the playoffs.
Las Vegas gave Minshew a two-year, $25 million contract in free agency to seemingly serve as an insurance policy in case O’Connell isn’t the long-term answer.
O’Connell appeared in 11 games last season and thrived down the stretch, leading the Raiders to a 3-1 finish while throwing eight touchdowns with no interceptions in that span.
Minshew being the starter is not set in stone, and this should be the most interesting quarterback battle heading into next season.
O’Connell has a valid case after finishing last year so strong, but Minshew’s contract might indicate this franchise will want to see what he can do.
