The Carolina Panthers needed more help at wide receiver.
They got a solid player in Diontae Johnson, who’s not a star but has shown that he can put up big numbers when heavily involved.
They also have a proven veteran in Adam Thielen, but he’s not getting any younger, and he may not have that much juice left in him at this point in his career.
That’s why it only made sense to see them interested in Mike Williams.
Unfortunately for them, the Clemson product wound up signing with the New York Jets instead.
Now, Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer reveals that the Panthers actually had a chance to match the Jets’ offer for Williams’ services, but they decided not to.
Re: Mike Williams and the #Panthers.
My understanding is the Panthers had an opportunity to match the Jets’ offer on Mike Williams but Carolina decided to look into other options.
They have three Day 2 picks and previously hosted Michael Gallup.

Apparently, they’re looking forward to using a draft pick to solve their woes at the WR position, and they also hosted former Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup for a visit.
The Panthers are going through a major transition right now, going from Frank Reich to Dave Canales.
He’ll be their third head coach in as many years, and it’s hard to find success that way.
They need to make sure that Bryce Young takes a big leap in year two, as he didn’t look sharp in his rookie campaign.
Of course, they need to put him in a position to succeed and give him the assets he needs to be at his best, which is why it was kind of disappointing to see their reluctance to match the Jets’ offer for the former Los Angeles Chargers star.
