After the NFL decided to progressively push back their trade deadline each season a few years ago, it has now become a time in which teams around the league have made significant moves.
Before the deadline last season, we saw the San Francisco 49ers trade for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, the Baltimore Ravens made a deal for linebacker Roquan Smith, and the Minnesota Vikings acquired tight end T.J. Hockenson in a trade with the Detroit Lions.
This year, there are plenty of teams around the NFL that could afford to make a deal before this year’s trade deadline in order to improve their chances to contend later this season.
According to FS1’s Craig Carton on Friday, one of these teams could be the Dallas Cowboys (via The Carton Show on Twitter).

If they were to suffer a loss in their matchup against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend, the Cowboys’ record would fall to 4-3.
Carton believes that would be enough for Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones to pick up the phone and see what sort of trade or trades he can make before next week’s deadline.
Even if they don’t lose, however, the Cowboys will still likely look into making trades that improve their playoff hopes for this season.
Most would agree that Dallas likely doesn’t currently have the talent to defeat other NFC contenders like the 49ers or Philadelphia Eagles, which is why a new addition might be necessary for the Cowboys to improve their chances against some of the NFC’s best.
