The Washington Commanders have had more than enough time to make a decision about their next franchise quarterback.
They knew that they were ready to move on from Sam Howell, but it seems like they’ve gone back and forth about who to replace him with.
In fact, they made a rather non-orthodox decision by hosting as many as four quarterbacks at the same time, with Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy all in the building.
According to ESPN insider Kimberley Martin, that’s because there’s still no consensus in the building about who they should draft with the No. 2 pick.

Nonetheless, she also adds that LSU star Jayden Daniels seems to be the frontrunner at this moment.
Daniels has been penciled in as the No. 2 pick for most of the process, and not even J.J. McCarthy’s impressive rise has made that change.
Notably, if they’re still not sold on any of the top-five prospects they could possibly get, there’s always the chance they look to trade down and maximize that pick’s value.
Michael Penix Jr.’s tape shows that he could be as good — if not better– as some of the top-tier prospects, and he could even be readier.
He’s projected to be a late-first or early-second round pick, so they could get a massive haul for the No. 2 selection and still get their new franchise quarterback, and if things don’t work out, they could always try again next season.
For now, no one knows what’s on their minds.
