The Cincinnati Bengals have begun the 2023 season with a 1-3 record.
For a team that has made it to back-to-back AFC Championships, this was not what the organization and fanbase expected.
Joe Burrow has not played to his typical standards and has been given the bulk of the blame for their poor start.
However, a recent stat was shared by Gregg Rosenthal, indicating that there is more to the Bengals than what initially meets the eye.
The Bengals are 25th in defensive DVOA, and 31st in pass block win rate, as Rosenthal highlights.
the Bengals are 25th in defensive DVOA. they are 31st in pass block win rate. this is not *only* Burrow’s injury

Having a low pass block win rate is an indication that Burrow has limited time to throw in the pocket.
When offensive linemen aren’t able to win, it allows significant pressure on quarterbacks, often putting them in a compromising situation.
Given that Burrow is still not back to normal after his injury, he’ll need all of the help he can get in this area.
The Bengals have put significant investments into their offensive line over the past few seasons, hoping to improve in this area.
The pass block win rate stat shows that they are still improving, as this is an area they haven’t mastered.
Being 25th in DVOA doesn’t help the Bengals’ case either.
DVOA stands for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average.
This means that the Bengals’ defense is one of the lowest-graded in the league, keeping opposing offenses on the field.
Whether the Bengals will be able to turn things around by the end of the season remains to be seen.
