The Green Bay Packers and star LT David Bakhtiari might part ways soon.
The Packers are close to $3 million over the salary cap right now, and they could take his cap hit off their books by releasing him.
He’s about to enter the final year of the record-setting extension he signed in 2020 shortly before suffering an ACL injury, and it would be a no-brainer move to get rid of him, at least from a money standpoint.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Craig Carton believes it would be shocking if he doesn’t become a New York Jet.
Talking on The Carton Show, he explained that the Jets are likely to be the only team interested in his services because of his age and his injury history.
“We all believe that Aaron Rodgers runs the franchise. I would be SHOCKED if Bakhtiari is not a New York Jet,” Carton said.

Also, with all the narrative about Aaron Rodgers calling all the shots in New York, and given their close friendship, it’s highly predictable that he will demand his team to make a run at him.
Of course, that could be the ultimate high-risk/high-reward pickup for the Jets.
When healthy, Bakhtiari is perhaps the best left tackle in the entire league, and the Jets are in desperate need of an improvement on the offensive line.
Then again, he’s hardly played since suffering that injury, and he only made one appearance last season, so there are no guarantees that he’s going to be available in the foreseeable future.
The Jets would be wise to give it a try, but they’re going to have to be extremely cautious with how much money they offer him, assuming it even happens.
