There are a few positions most fans believe the New York Jets need to focus on in the upcoming NFL Draft, namely wide receiver and offensive tackle, as the team lacks a long-term solution at the blind side and doesn’t have much to lean on outside of Garrett Wilson at wide receiver.
According to one analyst, there’s another area the Jets should focus on that most fans wouldn’t expect.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler went on the Can’t Wait Podcast and said that “it makes sense” for the Jets to “take a swing at quarterback” in the 2024 draft, saying it’s a “lottery ticket, you just never know what you’re going to find.”
.@dpbrugler told @ZackBlatt that ‘it makes sense’ for the #Jets to ‘take a swing at a quarterback’ in the 2024 #NFLDraft. He called it a ‘lottery ticket, you just never know what you’re going to find.’

Brugler added that Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt is an ideal target, as “he projects as more of a really good backup but if he gets a chance to start down the road I don’t know if he gives the job back.”
The Jets’ season fell apart after Aaron Rodgers went down last season, and it revealed a couple of different things about the roster, that the team didn’t have a viable backup quarterback, and that Zach Wilson is a bust.
Ideally, a backup quarterback won’t have to matter for at least another couple of years, but it’s not a bad idea to take a shot on a QB in the later rounds to learn behind Rodgers for a while like the Packers did with Jordan Love, though maybe it’s best to not do it in the first round.
The Jets have two picks in the fourth round and two in the seventh round in the upcoming draft.
