At one point in the 2023 NFL Season, the Dallas Cowboys looked like the team to beat.
With their strengths on offense and defense, the Cowboys looked like a juggernaut that was ready to blow through any team that got in their way.
While this appeared to be the case in the regular season, the Cowboys fell in the first round of the playoffs, ending their season early.
This early exit sent the Cowboys back to the drawing board, hoping to make changes to help their chances in the 2024 season.
The team’s evaluation of Dak Prescott was one of the most significant changes fans clamored for.
Some insisted that the Cowboys should move on from him, which doesn’t seem to be happening in the near future.
Craig Carton recently discussed the Cowboys’ conversion of Prescott’s $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus and why this and other moves are bringing the team down.
“This is a train wreck if you’re the Dallas Cowboys. If I’m a Cowboy fan, I am beyond frustrated because this is a clown move,” Carton said.

Carton discussed Prescott’s $55.5 million cap hit this season, which might be limiting the team from making other big deals.
CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are both in line for contract extensions, but unless the team does some more restructuring of Prescott’s deal, they could lose at least one of these players.
Parsons and Lamb are among the best in the league at their respective positions, and they will demand top dollar when the time comes.
Can the Cowboys afford to pay all of their best players?
