The Pittsburgh Steelers have revamped their quarterback room once and for all.
Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett are no longer in town, and it’ll be Russell Wilson and Justin Fields leading the way for Mike Tomlin’s team now.
Needless to say, that’s a bit of a conundrum for the organization, as they will only have one year to make a decision about Fields before having to sign him to a contract extension, yet Wilson is the favorite to start at quarterback.
Recently, a report stated that the Steelers could look to release Wilson if he struggled during training camp.
However, NFL analyst Craig Carton believes that’s absolute nonsense, adding that there’s simply no way or reason to even put that narrative out there.
Former Steeler @willcolon66 reacts to an NFL executive saying Russ could be released if he has a poor training camp:

Truth be told, the Steelers might be better off with Fields over Wilson.
Wilson is obviously the better choice right now, but Fields is younger and could be a long-term solution at the position, not to mention the fact that they need to get a good look at him before making a decision about his future.
Then again, patience is running thin in Pittsburgh.
Having non-losing seasons isn’t good enough for this team anymore, and they want to go back to winning playoff games, and Wilson gives them the best opportunity to do so right now.
Whatever the case, we could be looking at a dark horse candidate to come out of the AFC North.
If they were competitive with a subpar QB room, they should be much better now.
