The Minnesota Vikings are playing a dangerous game with Justin Jefferson.
The star wide receiver has reportedly turned down some contract extension offers, so he might not want to be there after all.
That’s why they need to make the most of him while they still can, whether that’s by paying him a record-breaking deal or trading him to a team that’s willing to do so.
At least, that’s what Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk seems to think about him:
“Some things are complicated. Some things aren’t. For the Vikings, this is as simple as it gets: Pay receiver Justin Jefferson or trade him to someone who will,” Florio wrote. “If they intend to pay him, what’s the delay? It won’t get cheaper over time. The best thing to do is to just do it now, make him happy, and move forward.”

In his latest column, Florio urged the Vikings to take a clear stance on the LSU product.
The Vikings have shut down all inquiries and rumors about a potential trade for Jefferson, and they’ve made it loud and clear that they intend to keep him for the long run.
Still, Jefferson’s reluctance to sign a new deal, combined with Kirk Cousins’ departure, could mean he’s not that sold on the organization going forward.
The Vikings are some pieces away from being a contending team, and while no one wants to give up on their best player, Jefferson could get them the kind of haul they could need to revamp their entire roster and get ahead of the curve.
He’s considered to be one of the best and most dominant wide receivers in the game, and there should be plenty of teams lining up and desperate to give up multiple first-round picks to get their hands on him.
If not, they need to stop messing around and give him what he’s asking for.
