The past few years have been atypical for the New England Patriots.
They were one of the best teams in the league during the Tom Brady era, but things haven’t been the same since his departure.
Mac Jones was drafted with the intent of taking over Brady’s role as the starter, but he didn’t end up panning out.
The team has now moved on from Jones, all but confirming that they will be selecting a quarterback with the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft.
While they are likely considering moving forward with a rookie quarterback, their roster likely needs at least one more pass-catcher to help them succeed in their first season.
They recently signed K.J. Osborn to a one-year deal, but this isn’t the only move the Patriots have attempted, and it indicates that they will keep pursuing other options.
As reporter Evan Lazar indicated, the Patriots were in pursuit of Calvin Ridley, but he ultimately signed with the Tennessee Titans.
He suggested that the Patriots could be in the market for Amari Cooper, assuming the Cleveland Browns are willing to part with him.
Like where your head is at. Not sure. But the Browns have now sunk resources into Jeudy and Elijah Moore. Would be all for Cooper as a #Patriots target. Similar to Ridley. https://t.co/GbpB8PxdfJ

Cooper is linked to the team for one more season but could be in the market to join a new team after that.
If the Patriots get ahead of the situation, they could submit a trade proposal to the Browns, hoping to get a veteran to be the WR1 on this team.
Otherwise, they might have to target the position later on in the draft, mainly leaving their offense to two rookies to get the job done.
