The Texas Rangers have made it all the way to the World Series.
Perhaps few people expected them to survive the Baltimore Orioles, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Houston Astros, and other top teams in the American League, but they did.
Now, they have one additional series to win: the most important of all.
To achieve their objectives, the Rangers need Max Scherzer to start pitching like the ace we all know he is.
Injuries, however, keep getting in his way.
On September 12, he suffered a teres major strain that kept him out for over a month.
He made his return in the AL Championship Series against the Astros, but was evidently rusty and posted a 9.45 ERA in 6.2 innings spread over two games.
Now, he is dealing with another injury ahead of the start of the Fall Classic, per MLB Network.
Max Scherzer is dealing with a cut on his right thumb.

The pitcher himself explained the situation and said that while it’s just a cut and he can pitch through it, the problem is that it could get bloody.
He didn’t talk about it, but there is also the chance the effectiveness of his pitches and their shape are affected by the uncomfortable cut.
In any case, there haven’t been reports from the team saying that he won’t be available, so the plan is still to have him make one or two starts in the World Series at least as of Thursday afternoon.
The Rangers hope the cut can get better in the upcoming days and isn’t a significant issue going forward, but it will all depend on how he progresses.
