The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shocked a lot of people after they dominated the Super Bowl runner-up Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round this past Monday night.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield played especially well in that game, too, with more than 300 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and no turnovers.
That didn’t stop Detroit Lions defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson from calling out Mayfield, though.
Gardner Johnson told the Detroit Free Press that the Buccaneers’ offense is good, but would be even better “If you give that Tampa group a good quarterback.”
Mayfield responded by poking fun at the fact that Gardner Johnson referenced a player – wide receiver Russell Gage – in his quote who hasn’t played all season because of a torn patellar tendon.
“I don’t think he’s really watched film,” Mayfield said (via Greg Auman). “[Gardner-Johnson] didn’t play our first game, so I’m excited to see him.”

Gardner-Johnson missed the Lions’ first match with the Buccaneers earlier this season while he recovered from a torn pectoral.
Detroit won that matchup against Tampa Bay, 20-6, where Mayfield didn’t score a touchdown and did throw an interception.
Gardner-Johnson, whether inadvertently or not, just gave Mayfield and the Buccaneers some quality bulletin board ahead of a pivotal showdown at Ford Field.
Tampa Bay is playing for it’s first NFC championship game appearance since it won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady in 2020.
