There were a lot of questions surrounding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into the offseason.
Despite making the playoffs, the Buccaneers were faced with several difficult contract decisions, which could alter the course of the 2024 season.
They have already made a few key decisions, which includes the extension of Baker Mayfield.
This makes Mayfield their quarterback for the foreseeable future.
While this might seem like a positive and a step in the right direction, another member of their offense hasn’t had the contractual luck of Mayfield to this point.
Tristan Wirfs has yet to sign a contract extension, something many people expected heading into the offseason.
Mayfield tried to lighten the mood surrounding this subject in a recent press conference shared by Jenna Laine of ESPN.
“Tristan’s still around. We’re not holding out on a friendship even though he’s holding out on us,” Mayfield said.

This is an indication that Mayfield and Wirfs have spoken recently, which could be interpreted as a good sign.
Wirfs is routinely touted as one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.
If he comes back to the Buccaneers on a new deal, his game could truly be taken to new heights.
He would likely have additional motivation to succeed, which would only help his teammates as they look to climb back to the top of the mountaintop.
The Buccaneers did win a Super Bowl under Tom Brady, but it would be that much more exciting if a player like Mayfield was able to get them another ring.
