The Tampa Bay Buccaneers caught plenty of heat when they decided to sign Baker Mayfield.
Even though he had shown glimpses of great play in his brief tenure with the Los Angeles Rams, they were taking a huge risk by giving the former No. 1 pick another opportunity.
Fast forward to today, and Mayfield has the Buccaneers right in the postseason conversation, and they’re still in control of their own destiny in their division.
Also, following his perfect game at Lambeau Field, it’s not a surprise to see that the NFL has deemed him the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Mayfield became just the second player to get a perfect passer rating at Lambeau Field, joining the likes of the legendary Aaron Rodgers.
He also became the first visitor to pull off that milestone, and that’s not a small thing.
The Bucs’ offense seems to be peaking and rolling at the right time, and Mayfield is having perhaps the best season of his career, posting pretty much the same numbers Tom Brady had in his final year with the team.
Mayfield still needs to prove the doubters wrong by taking a leap forward in the postseason, but we can all agree that he has already exceeded all expectations by leading his team this way, especially given how he’s played.
He might never be able to live up to the hype that come with being the No.1 pick, especially considering all the talking he did earlier in his career, but he’s proven that he’s not done by any means.
