The NFL’s trade deadline is rapidly approaching.
This is an important time for both players and teams, as both parties can be presented with opportunities to find greater success.
Many teams have established themselves as sellers due to their current position in the standings.
One of those teams is the Chicago Bears, who have recently given Jaylon Johnson the green light to find a new team at the deadline according to Jeremy Fowler.
#Bears corner Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade, per source. Chicago granted permission to search for a new home before today’s trade deadline. As Fowler mentions, it appears that the Bears tried to strike a deal with Johnson, which did not end up coming to fruition.
Now, a young cornerback could get a chance to play for a contender if he can find a viable trade partner.
At 24 years old, Johnson is still on his rookie deal, making him an inexpensive option for an interested party.
If he is traded, the team that takes him on will be faced with a decision in the 2024 offseason.
They can either let Johnson walk out the door after he hopefully helped their secondary in the prior year, or they can extend him in what could be a top-tier cornerback contract.
A significant amount of money hinges on Johnson’s potential performance for the rest of the season.
While it might be nice for him to dream about his upcoming payday, Johnson’s efforts must shift to finding a new team.
The NFL has a strict trade deadline, and with the Bears giving him permission to seek a trade on the last day, he has limited time remaining.
