The Seattle Seahawks have a new head coach for the first time in 14 seasons after the team hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald this week.
The decision will inevitability bring a new era to Seattle after almost a decade-and-a-half of Pete Carroll at the helm which included a Super Bowl win and multiple playoff appearances.
Macdonald’s reign will undoubtedly be different than Carroll’s and one Seahawk is already thinking about how it could affect his free agency plans.
Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner recently told NFL.com that he’s heard nothing but good things about Macdonald from his peers but doesn’t know how it will affect where he ends up in 2024.
“You look at it and when you see them make that hire – I’m fortunate enough to be around [Ravens pass rusher] Roquan [Smith] and those guys and they say all great things about him,” Wagner said. “… I want to be in Seattle, but I also know the business; I’ve been around a long time.”

Macdonald helped mold the best defense in the NFL this year and one of the best units in 2022 when he took over as defensive coordinator.
Now, he’ll look to replicate his success on a Seahawks team that’s had solid defensive performances throughout Carroll’s tenure.
Wagner has been a part of that for most of his career, but may not be in Macdonald’s plans for how he runs the defense.
Macdonald appears to have Wagner’s endorsement, but now it’s just a matter of if that sentiment is reciprocated.
