The Atlanta Braves are hoping the 2024 season will end much better than the previous two.
The Braves have been one of the best regular-season teams in baseball over the past six seasons.
Even though they won the World Series in 2021, they have been unable to live up to those expectations recently.
The Braves lost in the NLDS to the Philadelphia Phillies in each of the last two years.
That is why they continue to look for ways to improve their roster each offseason.
One player they needed to bring back was starting pitcher Max Fried.
He is one of the best left-handed starters in the game and he needed a new contract.
According to Grant McAuley, the Braves and Fried avoided arbitration by settling on a $15 million contract for 2024.

Fried is coming off a season where he battled injury.
He only started 14 games and threw a total of 77.2 innings.
But, he did pitch to a 2.55 ERA in those innings.
Fried finished second in NL Cy Young voting in 2022.
He has all of the talent to be one of the best pitchers in the league.
Spencer Strider and Fried give the Braves a dominant first and second starter.
They should be hard to beat in any playoff series if those two are healthy.
But, where Fried has struggled is in the playoffs.
He has a 4.57 career playoff ERA and that is not going to cut it.
If Atlanta has any hope of winning another World Series, they need Fried to live up to his contract in the playoffs.
