MLB fans certainly hoped for more action in free agency and, especially, the trade market.
However, the market dynamics and teams wanting to bet on their own farm systems and young players have made them reluctant to spend and pursue stars.
As a result, reigning NL Cy Young Blake Snell is still available, as is former MVP Cody Bellinger, postseason hero Jordan Montgomery, and other impact players.
The trade market has also been slow: the Chicago White Sox, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cleveland Guardians now appear unlikely to deal Dylan Cease, Corbin Burnes, and Shane Bieber, respectively.
The Brewers, on that note, were also floating around Willy Adames’ name as a trade possibility.
That, according to MLB insider Jon Morosi, won’t be advancing to the next stages in negotiations.
“Hot Stove note: I’m told Brewers trade talks on Willy Adames are quiet. Interested teams believe he is likely to remain with Milwaukee, at least to begin the season,” he tweeted.

Adames has been the Brewers’ starting shortstop for a couple of years now, since arriving from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021.
He is a solid defender at shortstop and has considerable power for the position, having slugged 31 homers in 2022 and 24 in 2023.
The team acquiring Adames (if a trade happens, which is unlikely at this point) has to know that the batting average will always be a liability.
Last season, he slashed .217/.310/.407 with a .717 OPS.
His career average is .247.
Adames is looking like a trade candidate, but closer to the deadline.
