Just two years ago, the San Francisco 49ers took Brock Purdy with the last selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Besides being Mr. Irrelevant, he was also the ninth quarterback taken in an unimpressive draft class at that position.
Kenny Pickett (20), Desmond Ridder (74), Malik Willis (86), Matt Corral (94), Bailey Zappe (137), Sam Howell (144), Chris Oladokun (241), and Skylar Thompson (247) were all taken ahead of him.
Fast forward to today, and he’s the only one who looks like a legitimate starter and a lock to hold onto his starting job for the foreseeable future.
However, as much success as he’s found and as great as his story is, he doesn’t see himself as a big underdog.
When asked about whether he thinks about all the guys who were taken ahead of him in the NFL Draft, he admitted that he doesn’t hold those kinds of grudges (via ProFootballTalk).
“Honestly I’m not that kind of guy,” Purdy said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “I know a couple of the guys that got drafted before me but I’ve never held a grudge for it or anything.

Purdy just lets his game do all the talking for him.
People have tried to drag him down and downplay his accomplishments by calling him a system quarterback or a byproduct of his team’s depth and talent.
Even so, he’s been unfazed and unbothered by all the outside noise, making sure to keep putting his head down and doing his job every single time he’s out there.
Now, he’s just one win away from putting an end to the Niners’ decades-long title drought, all while most of the quarterbacks taken ahead of him might never even play a snap in the playoffs.
