The Denver Broncos will look very different at quarterback during 2024 as they are set to cut ties with Russell Wilson after two miserable seasons.
The Broncos sent a haul of draft assets over to the Seattle Seahawks to land Wilson, but the move blew up in their face as they missed the postseason both times.
Denver did it’s best to insulate Wilson by hiring head coach Sean Payton, but even the Super Bowl winning coach wasn’t able to turn back the clock on the former superstar.
Despite the guaranteed money left on Wilson’s deal, the Broncos appear ready to suffer the dead cap hit and find his replacement either through free agency or the 2024 NFL Draft.
Fortunately for Denver, there should be some solid bridge quarterbacks available in free agency in the event they decide not to draft Wilson’s successor this year.
Benjamin Allbright suspects that the Broncos could look to someone like Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter next season via his personal Twitter account.
“Hmmm. I don’t think they go QB early at this point. So I’ll guess Jimmy G as starter next year and draft Michael Pratt,” Allbright tweeted.
When I suggested this a month ago it was viewed as ridiculous.

Garoppolo is still under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, but appears on the way out after the team cleaned house.
Then-interim head coach Antonio Pierce benched Garoppolo once he took over the job, rolling with rookie Aidan O’Connell instead.
With a new regime in place, Garoppolo is a prime candidate to get cut or traded between now and next season.
Should he become available, the Broncos would make for an intriguing choice.
