The 2023 NFL season looked like a lost one for the Denver Broncos as they got off to a dismal start, but they’ve suddenly reeled off five straight wins and are now in the hunt for one of the final AFC playoff spots.
Russell Wilson hasn’t been playing quite a superstar level, but he and the offense are finding ways to move the ball efficiently and keep pace with teams.
However, it’s been the defense that’s really keyed Denver’s win streak as the unit is locking down opponents at nearly every area of the field.
The Broncos traded away some of their defensive veterans at the trade deadline, but it seems like defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is figuring out how best to use the unit.
More impressively, Joseph has turned around the defense without key veteran Kareem Jackson who was recently served a four-game suspension after his hit on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs.
This is the second time this season Jackson has been suspended for an illegal hit but this time he is looking to gain more clarity on his punishment from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell via Troy Renck of Denver7.
Kareem Jackson said tonight that he is flying to New York tomorrow to meet in person with commissioner Roger Goodell in hopes of getting more clarity about his latest suspension and how the league is enforcing the rules. I first reported this was a possibility in my Renck&File…

Jackson’s original suspension was due to him racking up multiple illegal hit penalties, and fans thought that would be the end of the defensive back committing the infraction.
However, Jackson didn’t let up against the Vikings and he clearly felt like he did nothing wrong.
To his point, the NFL does seem to be enforcing the rules a little too harshly, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of his meeting with Goodell.
