Cam Newton is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, at least from a talent standpoint.
His prime was short-lived, but it seems like people forget just how dominant and physically imposing he was.
He was a legitimate top-3 or top-5 quarterback more often than not during his prime, and he was undeniably the best in the game during his MVP season.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that several young quarterbacks grew up idolizing him and even trying to mold their games to his.
Recently, reigning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year CJ Stroud joined him on his 4th and 1 podcast and admitted that he grew up looking up to him.
“I was a huge fan of yours…and still am. You were the QB I looked up to since I was a kid,” Stroud said.

Stroud also told the story of when he actually got to meet him after a game against a team he coached, and how they shared a little moment after a drill.
Newton recently caught some backlash over his comments on Brock Purdy, as he claimed he was a game manager and not a game changer.
He should know a thing or two about that, as his ability to take over a game with his arm or his feet was second to none during his prime.
Now, Stroud has proven to be more than ready to be one of the new faces of the league.
This is yet another example of how important having a role model can be for young athletes, and props to Newton and all who take some time to inspire the next generations of players with their activities off the field.
