Cam Newton is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in NFL history.
Just like in college, he was often a one-man show on offense, making plays with his feet, bursting his way through tackles, and making every single wide receiver around him better.
His connection with Greg Olsen was the best and most impactful of his career.
But other than his star tight end, he didn’t get to play alongside much talent at the wide receiver position, outside of — obviously — Steve Smith Sr.
Unfortunately, he didn’t get to play with the best version of Smith, who was a veteran by the time he arrived in the league.
With that in mind, a fan asked him about his favorite wide receiver, whom he played with, and the answer was rather surprising (via 4th and 1 Show).
Newton didn’t hesitate to point out Ted Ginn Jr., praising him for his football IQ, and stating that he often scared people with his speed and that you could never overthrow him.

He also claimed that he was never featured properly in the Panthers’ offense.
This was kind of shocking, as Ginn often struggled with drops and wasn’t exactly a fan favorite during his days with the Panthers.
Then again, he does have the second-most touchdown catches by a wide receiver who played with Newton (19), trailing only Devin Funchess (22).
It’s crazy to think what Newton would’ve been able to do with more talent around him on offense, and perhaps the narrative would’ve been much different than it is nowadays.
