The Arizona Cardinals started the Jonathan Gannon era last season, and the expectation was that they wouldn’t be that good right away.
Now, GM Monti Ossenfort is looking to keep building on what they already have.
The team will have more than enough cap space to make a bit of a splash in free agency.
They will have almost $42 million in free cap space.
However, as much as they intend to spend, Ossenfort claimed that the team should be wary about breaking the bank and making moves just for the sake of it:
“The nature of free agency, you end up overpaying. That’s how it works. It’s full of mistakes. That’s not to say there are not things you can fix there. We will take our chances and there will be times we will find ways to supplement our roster, but ultimately we are going to build this team, and what we are going to be moving forward, through the draft,” he said.

Ossenfort and the Cardinals gathered a nice set of picks for the upcoming NFL Draft.
They’ll have six picks in the first three rounds, including the No. 4 selection, so chances are those players will be the biggest additions they make in the offseason.
They already seem to have a franchise quarterback in Kyler Murray, so they’re already set there.
Nonetheless, their roster could use a boost at most positions, and as positive as building around young players might be for the future, some of them may not be ready to contribute right away.
WR Marquise Brown is likely to gauge a lot of interest in free agency, and they also need a significant upgrade on the offensive line.
Now, whether they’ll spend big bucks to try and get better for next season remains to be seen, but Cardinals fans could be in for another long season in 2024, especially in one of the toughest divisions in the league.
