The Arizona Cardinals got a generational talent in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Instead of trading back as some people expected, they stood pat to get their hands on Marvin Harrison Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.
He has some big shoes to fill with that name, but some scouts believe that he’s got the potential to be significantly better than his father, which is a lot to say.
Nonetheless, and regardless of the way he’s handled himself since he declared for the NFL Draft, Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing claims that he’s going to have to earn his role like everybody else (Via Around the NFL):
“In my opinion, he has to be like everyone else if he’s going to be the best version of himself,” Petzing said Tuesday via the Arizona Republic. “The way that he comes in and approaches his job, the way that he goes out there and practices, the way that he integrates himself into the team, if he’s going to be the best version of himself, I think those are the things he has to focus on. And that’s certainly what we’re going to emphasize.”

Of course, he’s not publically going to admit that Harrison Jr. would walk into the building as the clear-cut WR1, even if everybody knows that’s going to be the case.
In reality, the job is Harrison’s to lose.
Some have expressed concerns about his demeanor and how he takes care of his own brand, but that shouldn’t be an issue for as long as he brings in his A-game and puts in the work every day, and there’s no reason to believe that won’t be the case.
The Cardinals had missed a true WR1 since Larry Fitzgerald walked away from the game, and they hope to build the same kind of relationship with the Ohio State product.
More than that, that also puts some pressure on Kyler Murray’s shoulders, as they’ve given him a prime weapon to work with, and there’s no more room for excuses at this point.
