The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into a different era, with the team getting rid of head coach Brandon Staley after getting crushed by the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders during the 2023 NFL regular season.
As a result of the Chargers cleaning house, the team went all out in their pursuit of former University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to be Staley’s successor once the season was officially over for Los Angeles.
Fortunately for the Chargers, Harbaugh was all for coming to Los Angeles and is more than ready to help turn this franchise around with superstar quarterback Justin Herbert under center.
Although the team and Harbaugh are excited about moving forward with Herbert and building around him, the same can’t be said for star running back Austin Ekeler, who the team will let test NFL free agency, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Dov Kleiman.

Ekeler has been very vocal about his desire to want to leave the team because he felt as though he wasn’t appreciated, even though the offense used to go solely through him at times.
Unfortunately for Ekeler, he wasn’t able to get his wish to be traded, but now he’ll control his own fate as an unrestricted free agent and will almost certainly leave the team for greener pastures during the offseason.
In 14 games during the 2023 NFL season, Ekeler rushed for 628 yards and five touchdowns on 179 carries.
Ekeler also made an impact as a receiver, as usual, catching 51 passes for 436 receiving yards and one touchdown.
