Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel is now an analyst and had plenty of thoughts on the draft, and there was a lot to be excited about given the record amount of quarterbacks and receivers flying off the board in the first round.
His favorite pick of the draft so far is stepping into a great situation with a chance to immediately be a major contributor in an exciting new regime.
Daniel said on NFL Total Access that he loved the Los Angeles Chargers’ second-round selection of Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey, saying “This is my favorite pick of the draft…he has the ability to be a WR1 for the Los Angeles Chargers.”

McConkey didn’t put up huge numbers at Georgia, but he did win a pair of National Championships and was a pivotal member of that offense.
The exciting aspect of this move is how badly the Chargers needed a receiver.
They surprised many by taking tackle Joe Alt out of Notre Dame with the No. 5 pick when many believed they would be taking a receiver there, perhaps LSU’s Malik Nabers.
This was quite possibly the best landing spot for a rookie receiver this year, with new head coach Jim Harbaugh taking over in LA and gunslinger Justin Herbert locked in long-term at quarterback.
The Chargers also lost their two foundational wide receivers this offseason after trading Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and letting Mike Williams sign with the New York Jets in free agency.
McConkey could be the WR1 the day he walks into training camp, and it’s exciting to think about the production he could put up with Herbert.
