The San Francisco 49ers didn’t hesitate to make a big move ahead of the trade deadline.
It’s not like they needed to add more firepower to their defensive line, but it’s not too often that you find a former Defensive Rookie of the Year available for just a compensatory third-round pick.
DE Chase Young could have a major impact next to former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa, and while there are some questions about his durability, this seemed like a match made in heaven.
Young will be a free agent at the end of the season, so obviously, the prospect of staying in the Bay area should be on his mind right now.
However, Young recently stated that he’s not worried about his next contract, and all he cares about right now is being able to learn the playbook and be as good as he can be for his new team (via Nicholas McGee).
“I’m not worried about that right now, I’m just worried about learning this playbook and being the best player I can be.”
Chase Young isn’t thinking about a long-term #49ers contract just yet.

Recently, Young talked about how he could tell that he was joining a winning organization, noting the difference between his former team.
He’s coming off a strong season with 5.0 sacks in the first eight games of the year, which is more than what every player on the Niners’ roster has posted to date.
The Niners have never hesitated to do whatever it takes to land and keep as many talented players as they can, and they’re likely going to do so with Young as well.
If not, they will get a compensatory pick if he decides to leave as a free agent, so it was a risk-free move by John Lynch.
