It wasn’t one of the most exciting playoff wins in the recent history of the franchise, but the Kansas City Chiefs did enough things right on Saturday to come away with a victory in their opening-round playoff matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
While the win will advance the Chiefs further in the 2023 AFC playoff bracket, the team’s goals are much larger than just advancing to the next round.
Kansas City defensive lineman Charles Omenihu echoed this mentality with some comments after Kansas City’s win over the Dolphins on Saturday (via Aaron Ladd on Twitter).
“I didn’t join the team to go to the divisional round. That’s just what we’ve got to do. I joined the team to get to Vegas. I’ve been to back-to-back NFC Championship games. I want to get to the Super Bowl.”

Vegas, of course, is in reference to Las Vegas, which is where this season’s Super Bowl will be held.
Before joining the Chiefs last March, Omenihu was a member of the San Francisco 49ers teams that made it all the way to the NFC Championship in 2022 and 2021.
Unfortunately for him, he and the 49ers were unable to get wins in those two matchups, so they were sent home just one game before the Super Bowl each season.
Omenihu is only 26-years-old, but he’s already got his eyes on accomplishing the ultimate goal of helping a team win a Super Bowl.
He certainly picked a good franchise to sign with to make that attempt, as Kansas City has appeared in three of the last four Super Bowls, and they came away with a victory in two of them.
So, while Saturday’s playoff victory over the Dolphins was enjoyable for Omenihu and the rest of his Chiefs teammates, they know it’s just the first step in their journey to try to win the franchise its fourth Vince Lombardi trophy.
