Throughout his short time in the NFL thus far, despite going to two consecutive NFC Championship Games and advancing to the Super Bowl this season, San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy still has his fair share of doubters.
Even though Purdy put on a show against the Detroit Lions last weekend by pulling off an epic come-from-behind win in the second half, some fans and members of the media don’t want to give the up-and-coming star the recognition he deserves for what he’s been able to accomplish thus far in the Bay Area.
It seems as though the only way Purdy will get the credit he deserves for his play is by leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium.
Until then, he’ll still get criticized, but Chris Broussard did come up with a good comparison for Purdy, which is Drew Brees, who led the New Orleans Saints to a title during his storied career, via “First Things First.”
“This guy can be like a Drew Brees,” Broussard said, referring to Purdy.

Legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice comparing Purdy to former 49ers superstar Joe Montana seems like a stretch and entirely too early, but Brees seems to be a reasonable comparison at this point in time.
Even though this will be his first Super Bowl appearance, it seems as though Purdy has everything to win and everything to lose, as he’ll certainly be the fall guy if San Francisco can’t get the best of the Chiefs.
If he does win, especially by beating Patrick Mahomes in the big game, he might get that credit he deserves while drawing comparisons to greats like Brees.
