The 2024 NFL Draft is loaded with talent at the quarterback position to the point where it’s difficult to get an accurate ranking of who the best prospects are.
You could ask 100 people to rank their top six prospects and get 100 different answers.
NBC Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms has provided his list, and he is notably down on projected No. 2 pick Drake Maye, ranking him 6th behind Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and J.J. McCarthy.

When it comes to media rankings, you never know if pundits release lists like this to stoke the flame and generate engagement, but Simms made sure to put his rankings into tiers to separate Maye as a “talented project.”
Maye was explosive in 2022 at North Carolina and has put up gaudy numbers over the past two years, but he does come with a few question marks regarding his accuracy.
He is also indisputably a tier below the five other names on this list when it comes to accolades, as Williams and Daniels both have Heisman trophies, Bo Nix was a Heisman finalist and started more college games than any quarterback ever, Penix Jr. was a Heisman finalist with a National Championship appearance, and J.J. McCarthy won a National Championship.
Calling Maye a bit of a project is not a hot take, but suggesting he should be the sixth quarterback off the board feels like overreacting.
For reference, Simms had C.J. Stroud as the No. 1 QB prospect last year, which turned out to be a great take, but had Will Levis sixth in this Drake Maye spot, ranked below Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Hendon Hooker.
