The Green Bay Packers were already stacked at running back.
But history has taught us that you can never have too much depth at that kind of position, especially when you have an offensive guru like Matt LaFleur running the show.
That’s why they took USC star MarShawn Lloyd in the third round, an explosive and perennial big-play threat kind of running back who could make an immediate impact at Lambeau Field.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Chris Simms claimed that he really liked the value the Packers got with that selection.
In terms of value RB picks, I really like the Packers getting MarShawn Lloyd. Not necessarily a game-breaker but a bunch of 10-15 yard power runs that should translate well.

And while he doesn’t think he’s necessarily a difference-maker, he believes he’s going to have plenty of big plays in that offense.
Lloyd isn’t a workhorse or a three-down back, nor is what the Packers needed at the time.
They have Josh Jacobs for that purpose, and AJ Dillon is his likeliest backup and passing-game or two-minute back.
Lloyd, on the other hand, should give them an elite change-of-pace running back to feature occasionally, especially after Jacobs has worn the defense down.
His quick twitch, lateral quickness, and smooth movements allow him to break tackles left and right, and he has great vision and balance to find the tiniest gaps and get 10+ yards when he sees space.
The Packers have plenty of weapons on offense, and with most of them being young and getting either their second or third year in that system, they should be even more dangerous in Jordan Love’s second campaign as the starter.
