Christian Hackenberg was one of the many former quarterbacks to come through the doors of the New York Jets’ facility over the last decade.
He was drafted in the second round back in 2016.
Despite being drafted so high, he was the team’s third-string quarterback in 2016 and didn’t play a down of football in 2017.
In 2018, he bounced around the practice squads of the Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, and Philadelphia Eagles.
The following season, he played his last season of professional football for the Memphis Express of the AAF.
The former Penn State star recently spoke on the “Ross Tucker Podcast” about his time specifically with the Jets and why it possibly didn’t work out.
“New York was probably the last place I should’ve gone in terms of the market, the expectations, the way it was,” Hackenberg said.

Some players just don’t make it in New York.
It’s not the right scene for them.
Look at Zach Wilson.
Look at Sam Darnold.
Whether it is the expectations, the media, or any other off-the-field circumstances, some players just can’t make it work.
Hackenberg was another guy in a long line of players who just didn’t mesh well with New York.
Presently, Aaron Rodgers is in that same battle.
The four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion is obviously from a different breed than the likes of Hackenberg, Wilson, and Darnold.
He is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time and will be looking to prove doubters wrong coming off of an Achilles injury that cost him all of 2023.
